What is the right kind
of treatment for you?

Of the thousands of smiles that have walked out our door, no two patients have been the same. That is why every one of our patients receives their own specialised, personal treatment plan.

A tailored approach not only gets the best long-term result but also suits your lifestyle and personal wishes. Whilst many treatment options can align teeth, your treatment needs ensure a correct bite. As a specialist orthodontist we consider several other key aspects of your oral health—ones that might not be apparent beyond a straight smile (but equally as important). We pay close attention and care to the way that your teeth and bite functions—this helps avoid tooth wear and ensures the long-term stability of the results. It not just about achieving a great smile at the end of your treatment but a smile that you will have throughout life.

At Freezer Orthodontics, with our experience in providing an individualised approach to your treatment, we can help point out what you need to consider and guide you making the decisions that are best for you. We can then use our expertise and the latest technology to help you achieve the result you are after.

A common question asked is will teeth need to be taken out before treatment? We take this question very seriously—and on a case-by-case basis.  We look at several factors, including:

If we can find a way of avoiding extractions, we will. We often start without extractions and reassess how your treatment is progressing and then decide if extractions are needed during treatment. This allows us to keep our overall extraction rate very low—only about 15% of treatments.

Comparing treatment types.

Treatment alternatives are broadly divided into metal braces; tooth-coloured or clear braces; and clear aligners. Sometimes we can mix these options, for example using aligners to correct the top teeth and braces on the bottom teeth.

The following sections provide a basic overview of how treatment types differ and what to expect from each. The main differences between these treatment alternatives need to be considered before deciding on which treatment is best for you. As a specialist orthodontist our ability to provide a range of treatments means we’re well suited to advise an approach that will give you outstanding results.

Metal Braces

Can they be seen?
Yes, but they are now smaller than in the past and how noticeable they are also depends on how much tooth you show on smiling.

Can I have colours?
Yes, and choosing different colours makes braces fun and is important for many teenagers.

Can I eat what I want?
No. You need to avoid hard and sweet and sticky foods.

Will my teeth hurt during treatment?
Yes. Especially after treatment is started or you have your wires adjusted.

Are they easy to keep clean?
It takes extra time to clean in and around your braces and it is important that you take the extra time to do so. Piksters can be used to help you clean between your teeth.

Can they be used to correct all orthodontic problems?
Yes. Metal braces have been used for many years to correct all sorts of problems.

Do metal braces require a longer treatment period?
No. Treating with metal braces takes about the same time as using clear braces or aligners.

What if I’m forgetful or lose things?
Your cooperation is needed to keep your teeth clean, wear any elastics and not damage your braces. But we can usually recover if you lapse during treatment.

Can a mouthguard be worn during treatment?
Yes.  We can adapt a chemist mouthguard to fit your teeth and braces during treatment.

Are metal braces more expensive?
We keep our pricing competitive and offer interest free payment plans to make treatment affordable.

Clear Braces

Can they be seen?
These are harder to see than metal braces.

Can I have colours?
Yes, but with clear braces having colours will make them more noticeable.

Can I eat what I want?
No. You need to avoid hard and sweet and sticky foods as well as foods that are likely to stain the modules that hold the wire to your brackets.

Yes. Clear braces work the same as metal braces and can correct all sorts of problems.

Do clear braces require a longer treatment period?
No. Treating with clear braces takes about the same time as using metal braces or aligners.

Are clear braces more expensive?
These are slightly more expensive than metal braces and this additional cost is spread over the duration of treatment.

Clear Aligners

Can they be seen?
People are unlikely to know that you are having treatment.

Can I have colours?
No. Having colours isn’t possible with aligners.

Can I eat what I want?
Yes, you take you aligners out to eat. You will need to clean your teeth or rinse your mouth after eating.

Will my teeth hurt during treatment?
Typically, the first aligner causes you teeth to be most sore. After that there is some tightness when you change to the next aligner.

Are they easy to keep clean?
Good oral hygiene is essential, and you also need to keep your aligners clean. You can brush and floss your teeth as normal.

Can they be used to correct all orthodontic problems?
No. Because of the way they work, aligners are not good at correcting deep bites, which means that fixed retainers may not be able to be used after treatment.

Do clear alingers require a longer treatment period?
No. Treating with clear aligners takes about the same time as using metal braces or clear braces.

What if I’m forgetful or lose things?
Using aligners requires 100% cooperation all the time. If you are likely to forget or are likely to lose your aligners, then you should consider braces.

Can a mouthguard be worn during treatment?
Wearing a mouthguard is not as straightforward as custom mouthguards slow or prevent or tooth movement and chemist mouthguards don’t fit sufficiently well.

Are clear braces more expensive?
Aligners cost about the same as braces and can be paid for using our flexible interest free payment plans.
